Creating an asthma action plan

Know your treatment goals

Opening up about challenges isn’t always easy, but it’s key to meeting your goals and keeping your asthma management on track. Identifying where asthma causes disruption and where you want to see improvement is how you and your doctor can make informed treatment decisions—including exploring treatment options you may not have considered or discovered yet.

Partner with an asthma specialist

An asthma specialist can offer a level of specific expertise and an understanding of the available treatment options that can help keep your asthma under control.

Here are a few different types of specialists to consider:

Pulmonologists specialize in the respiratory system. They receive specialized training in pulmonary medicine, often involving critical care and sleep medicine. A pulmonologist works with patients facing serious or chronic breathing problems.

Allergists specialize in diagnosing, managing, and treating allergies and immune system disorders. They have expertise and training in identifying allergy and asthma triggers.

Immunologists diagnose and treat conditions related to the immune system, such as allergies, autoimmune diseases, and immunodeficiencies.
